Lisa Barrett is sharing her journey to home ownership. Before you read this final installment, check out parts onetwothree, and four of her blog series.

When I started my journey to home ownership, there were so many details to cover, some of which I didn’t even expect, even though I work alongside Stephanie at Lanier Property Group. It’s no exaggeration that I would’ve been lost without those who guided me along the way — my agent Lindsey Holmes, mortgage lender Dan Pedroni, 70 West neighborhood specialist Kristen Ohler, and move manager Erin Keller.

Even after Steven and I moved into our new home and were settled with baby Elizabeth, there were still things to learn. For example, it was WAY harder to get credentials to access the community amenities than we thought it would be, and we lost about a month during the summer of being able to use the pool / splash pad. I really wish we could have had more information about that before we moved in so we wouldn’t have lost that time.

Putting aside the missed opportunities for memory-making last summer, it’s exciting to think about what lies ahead… our first Thanksgiving and Christmas in our forever home, years of birthdays and other milestones, visits from friends and family. The process of buying a home may have ended, but this new phase in our lives is really just beginning.

Our “Gilmore Girls,” “Dawson’s Creek,” Harry Potter, and Star Wars decor are all set up. Elizabeth’s stuffed animals are in their designated places (until she moves them, of course). And the coffee bar is getting used daily. We are home.

I hope this series brought inspiration, knowledge, and reassurance as you consider taking your own steps toward home ownership. Have questions? Lanier Property Group is only a phone call (910-233-0484) or email ([email protected]) away.
